When your mom and I moved here, we thought we were done with a garden, etc. But I guess old habits die hard. We started a new, SMALL garden, and as we can't eat all that is produced and it is a shame to waste it, we have been doing some canning and freezing. We have a good supply of frozen sweet corn, and blueberries, apples,we decided to can green beans, I think we have 8 pints, and of course some tomatoes, 22 pints, plus tomatoe juice, ( I may have to cut back on tomatoe plants next year) but tomatoe soup and a grilled cheese sandwhich taste Oh so good, on a cold winter nite.
And then your mom got the idea to make some apple butter, from her mom's recipe. Of course, we had gotten rid of our colander (big strainer to some of you) because we weren't going to need it anymore. So, after calling about 6 diferent elederly ladies she was able to borrow one. And is it good! As I was spreading some on my toast this morning, your mom pointed at the jar and said, "that stuff is evil". I thought the contents of the jar had been going down rather rapidly.
We are definitely moving into a diferent season of the year, hi's in the 60's low's in the 40's, but a good time of the year. The sights and smells are fiferent now, but that is OK, and it is a good feeling to having something to Store Up For Winter.
