And I’m pretty sure a few others reading this would, too.
Our stay in Coal Creek Canyon was enjoyable, and I’m finding my time here on the hobby farm to be even better. We’re “flatlanders” for now and can see the mountains in the distance, as opposed to being directly on a mountain in the canyon like we were for the past couple weeks.
Morning is really beautiful here and it comes early! The morning sounds are beautiful, too. Radar (8 month old German Shepherd) and Reba (14 year old lab) and I take a walk around to check on everybody and everything about 6 a.m..
Eight goats – check. Twelve chickens – check. One kitty – check. It’s a symphony of animals as the chickens cluck their nervous cluck, knowing I’m comin’ for their eggs, the goats baa-aaa a good morning and the neighbor’s horses chime in with the high notes here and there.
Yes, this is my first egg harvest – chicken poop n all!
Radar is a good companion and keeps a close eye on me in case I get lost.
The homeowners have a large greenhouse, two gardens plus an herb garden, all on timed sprinklers thank goodness (that was part of the morning-noon-night effort at the last sit), and they urged us to eat whatever we want. I’ve been enjoying delicious salads and tonight I think I added a type of spinach. I’m not really sure, but I figured if it’s in the garden it must be good for me. I don’t exactly see Cheetos growing out there.
OK, so maybe I have a little bit of farm girl blood in me, too. Make no mistake, though, I’m enjoying this because I know it’s temporary. Having a house is a lot of freakin’ work, not to mention a hobby farm.
By the way, I know something has changed with being able to leave comments and I think blogspot wants us to create a log in now, too. I’ve got top level tech support looking into it; however, July 4th weekend he’s chief photographer for his nephew’s wedding in Michigan, so some of his spare time is currently spent preparing for that.
why can't i comment? or even leave a post!!!
