This is why we live here

I woke up Thursday morning to a chilly 37 degrees, the coldest temperature reported in Minnesota. The days are getting much shorter now. Dawn is just breaking when I wake between 5 and 5:30, nearly an hour later than earlier this summer. Fall is definitely on its way. Still, just one week ago we had high temperatures in the mid 80's and high humidity. So this little respite is refreshing. When the coffee was cooked, I peaked outside and noticed the beginnings of a spectacular sunrise. The sun has moved so far south already though, that I have to go out on my dock to see it. I grabbed a jacket and cap and my coffee and went out to enjoy the show. I needed a towel to wipe the morning dew off the plastic deck chair. The lake was calm and warm, so I could see bits of steam rising here and there. A glance towards Canada revealed bays shrouded in fog. It was one of those sunrises that starts soft and slowly builds with muliple layers pinks, reds, purples, etc. The warm cup felt good as I cradled it in my hands and drew in the delicious aroma of the freshly ground French Roast coffee. The caffeine slowly removed the cob webs of the night before and the whole "experience" soothed my soul and prepared me for the day ahead.

  2. I think he is a natural born writer. "caffein slowly removed the cobwebs of my mind..." Wish I had said that.
Glad to see you are joining us, Kevin. Still hot here, 86 today. Yuk. Watering trees and flowers. Looking forward to a little cooldown. Yeah, you can sure tell the sun is heading south again.

  3. If I was really good at this stuff, I'd have taken a picture of the sunrise to go along with my post. It was awesome. But it takes too much time to fiddle around with connecting the cables, waiting for the files to upload, then clicking and pointing and dragging to get the darn picture where you want it. I long for the good old days when I popped the film out of my camera, dropped it off at Kmart, then picked up my photos about a week later...
