No, that’s not the combination to my lock.

It’s 87 degrees.  93% humidity. On April 10.  Summer is here – early.

I always said April and October were my favorite months in Florida.  This year has proven different.  We barely had spring, now as far as I can see forward we’re nearing summer temps in the forecast.

I remember this heat.  Too well.

My goal with coming back to Florida was to get out of dodge before this part.  Ninety-three percent humidity with not a drop of rain in sight.  I noticed over the weekend that “winter sequestered” feeling in our activities.  Too damn hot to go outside and do anything, so we stayed inside for the most part with windows and doors sealed shut.  We did play a little morning tennis, but were both drenched after about a half hour.  I’ll bet snow birds with no particular commitments or schedule are pulling out early!

The downside of having everything sealed shut, though, is we don’t hear the fish jumping or the birds singing. I hope I don’t sound like I’m complaining. I realize this is the offset of enjoying the fish and birds while everybody else was in true winter lockdown. I suppose this is Mother Nature’s way of booting me out, like a mother eagle does with the eaglet.  Mother eagle doesn’t suddenly push them out one day, but she removes the soft cushy nest pieces one by one until it’s no longer a comfy place to be.

Yes, Mother Nature, the nest is being prepared, er, unprepared. These eaglets are ready to leave Florida in just a couple of weeks!

P.S. I wrote this Sunday. It’s Monday morning and I checked current temp…100% humidity and clear blue sky – aside from a little heat haze. These folks are in for a bugger of a summer!
